Product overview

Dark Rust Dust is a deep reddish-brown enamel liquid pigment made for heavier rust accumulations — on vehicles and on any other parts and fittings that would corrode. It is a liquid pigment suspended in enamel, so it goes on neat with a brush and holds fast on its own once dry; being self-fixing, it wants no fixer coat.

  • Thin and blend it with White Spirit as you go, and re-wet set pigment with the same spirit to soften or shift it.
  • The finish dries dead-flat matt, sitting as dark, crusted corrosion in the recesses.
  • Finish with dry pigment worked over the surface for a rougher, built-up rust.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
