Product overview
Dark Grit is a greyish, clay-toned enamel liquid pigment for dirt and dust gathering on mineral-rich ground and ash-covered landscapes. It goes down with a brush at full strength and holds without a fixer once it has dried.
- Cut it with White Spirit where you want a softer, thinner deposit, or to grade it across a surface.
- Add tones into a wet area to vary the grime before it takes, and re-open a set area with White Spirit to adjust it.
- It dries matt with no sheen; top it with dry pigment for the final texture.
Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
