Product overview

Burnt Rust Red is one of AK's dry weathering pigments: a loose, ultrafine powder, not a paint and not a liquid, carrying no binder of its own. The subjects it covers run wide: armour, aircraft, dioramas, naval, rail, sci-fi and wargaming among them.

Dust it on and leave it dry, or bind it wet using Pigment Fixer or White Spirit; a dry dusting can be set later the same way.
The effect is controllable and low in adhesion, which makes it well suited to light dusting.
Sold as 35 ml of loose pigment.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
