Abteilung 502 Sepia is an artist oil paint from AK Interactive's ABT 502 range — a very dark, warm near-black brown built for weathering rather than skin tones. AK calls it a basic colour no modeller should be without: thinned with a matte thinner it reproduces dry oil and diesel stains, runs cleanly into panel lines, and picks out fine detail on small parts. It is a workhorse for paneling and shading. As an oil it stays open for blending and controlled placement, and thins and cleans with white spirit. Abteilung's reduced-oil formula gives a more matte finish. Supplied in a 20 ml tube.

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?+
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?+
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?+
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
