Abteilung 502 Ivory Black is a versatile black artist oil for deep shadows, dark surfaces and controlled weathering. AK Interactive recommends it for darkening panels, adding depth to recessed or hidden areas and modifying other colours. It can also be applied over dark grey tones to develop shadow areas without relying on a harsh, pure-black finish. Despite its traditional colour name, AK officially identifies the pigment used in this paint as PBk7.

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?+
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?+
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?+
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
