Abteilung 502 Dark Mud is an artist-grade modelling oil in a 20 ml tube. AK calls it a staple of the weathering process, adding realism under dirty vehicles or in snowy terrain. AK recommends combining it with AKABT125 Light Mud or plaster for a richer, more textured finish, and notes that darker mud tones are often laid under lighter ones in splashes and recesses to simulate fresh mud. The lower-oil ABT 502 formula gives a more matte finish and long working time for building layered earth effects.
20 ml tube, single artist oil colour (AK code AKABT130; former code ABT130)
Reduced-oil formula for more matte finishes than standard fine-art oils
AK use: mud and earth weathering; pairs with Light Mud or plaster for texture

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?+
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?+
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?+
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
