Abteilung 502 Railroad Pigments Set contains four dry weathering pigments selected for trains, rolling stock and railway environments. The selection covers black smoke, industrial dirt, cargo dust and brown rust, allowing separate treatment of exhaust deposits, running gear, freight residue and oxidised metal. AK's dry pigments can be layered directly as powder, fixed after application, or combined with enamels, acrylic resin, plaster and other binders for more permanent textured effects.

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?+
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?+
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?+
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
