Product overview

Tamiya Epoxy Putty Quick Type is the 25 g option for repairs, small modifications and detail work that need to become hard within the same day. Mix the white putty with the beige hardener, shape the compound on the model and leave it at room temperature; Tamiya states a 5–6-hour hardening time. The Japanese product page also describes a fine-grained finish and frames the putty for repairing and modifying plastic models. This is one set of the same Quick Type putty supplied four times in the larger 100 g box.

  • The box lists re-modelling, detail fabrication, sculpturing, kit modifications and repairs as its intended uses.
  • The two components are white putty and beige hardener.
  • Tamiya describes the Quick Type as producing a fine-grained finish.
  • This is a two-part compound that must be mixed and shaped; it is not an adhesive or a ready-to-use tube filler.

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between Green Stuff and Milliput-type putties?

Green Stuff is flexible and springy, holding fine sculpted detail like cloth and cabling. Milliput-type putties are harder-setting and sand smooth once cured, which makes them better for gap-filling and surfaces you want to blend flat. Many sculptors mix the two.

How do I stop epoxy putty sticking to my tools and fingers?

Keep a little water on the tool and your fingertips as a release; the putty won't grab a wet surface. Work in good light and let very tacky putty firm up for a few minutes before shaping fine detail.

How do I get the mixing ratio right?

Most epoxy putties cure at a 1:1 mix of the two parts by volume, kneaded until the colour is fully even with no streaks. Under-mixing leaves soft patches that never fully harden, so mix longer than feels necessary.

How do I fill a seam gap cleanly without losing nearby detail?

Press a small amount of putty into the gap, then wipe the excess back with a wet tool or a cotton bud before it cures, leaving putty only in the recess. Cleaning up wet saves sanding over detail later.
