Product overview

The dark blue DSPIAE PT-SP12 handles refinement after shaping and initial polishing are complete. At 1200 grit, the self-adhesive paper reduces marks that are more visible than tactile, keeping attention on surface preparation rather than material removal. Each acrylic pad acts as a reusable, rigid carrier, so the abrasive can be renewed without changing the familiar colour and printed identifier.

  • At 2.5 mm thick, the backings measure 25 mm, 10 mm and 5 mm across.
  • The 10 mm backing balances access around compact flats with more support than the narrowest option.
  • Laser cutting establishes the outline before manual polishing smooths each edge.
  • Exposure to thinner or solvent cement can mark the acrylic surface.

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a needle file and a sanding stick?

Needle files are steel, cut faster and hold their shape for tight spots and metal. Sanding sticks are foam or paper-backed abrasive, kinder to plastic and better for smoothing broad, flat surfaces without gouging.

Which grit should I start with on mould lines?

For plastic, start around 400 grit to knock the line back, then refine with 600–800. Coarser than 400 leaves scratches you then have to chase out, so only go lower for resin flash or heavy work.

Should I file wet or dry?

Wet sanding with a drop of water reduces dust and clogging and gives a finer finish, which matters on resin where the dust is best not inhaled. Dry filing is fine for quick metal work and steel needle files.

How do I stop a file clogging with plastic or resin?

Brush it out with a stiff brass brush along the cut direction. For sanding sticks, tap them clean often. Clogged abrasive stops cutting and starts burnishing, which just polishes the high spots rather than removing them.
