Product overview

The Blazing Red DSPIAE AS-RD15 is a four-board detail set, but its code does not describe the width: two boards are 5 mm and two are 10 mm. The narrower pair reaches recesses, intakes and gaps between raised details, while the 10 mm backings suit panel-line edges and compact flats. All are 2 mm thick, and the required self-adhesive sandpaper is purchased separately.

  • One board at each width can retain coarser paper while its partner carries a finer sheet.
  • Align an SP-series sheet with three board edges, then trim the excess to the required width.
  • The supplied identification stickers cover paper grades from 180# up to 2500#.
  • Anodised, sandblasted surfaces minimise adhesive residue when the abrasive is removed.
  • Integral machining keeps every narrow aluminium backing rigid and flat.

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a needle file and a sanding stick?

Needle files are steel, cut faster and hold their shape for tight spots and metal. Sanding sticks are foam or paper-backed abrasive, kinder to plastic and better for smoothing broad, flat surfaces without gouging.

Which grit should I start with on mould lines?

For plastic, start around 400 grit to knock the line back, then refine with 600–800. Coarser than 400 leaves scratches you then have to chase out, so only go lower for resin flash or heavy work.

Should I file wet or dry?

Wet sanding with a drop of water reduces dust and clogging and gives a finer finish, which matters on resin where the dust is best not inhaled. Dry filing is fine for quick metal work and steel needle files.

How do I stop a file clogging with plastic or resin?

Brush it out with a stiff brass brush along the cut direction. For sanding sticks, tap them clean often. Clogged abrasive stops cutting and starts burnishing, which just polishes the high spots rather than removing them.
