A classic Kolinsky sable round for smooth, precise painting and reliable point control.
Da Vinci Series 36 is another long-handle Kolinsky sable round, and in the market it sits alongside Series 35 as a professional-grade fine hair brush. The distinction is usually one of sizing, profile, or series family rather than a radically different purpose, so the key expectation remains a premium sable round with strong point control and fluid paint handling. It is suitable for artists who want a brush that can handle both detail and moderate paint capacity without feeling brittle. In the same price bracket as high-end synthetic rounds, Series 36 should feel softer and more expressive, especially in wet media. Compared with lower-cost sable, the advantage is usually a more consistent tip and a more dependable belly, which matters when the brush is used repeatedly for small but demanding work. artsupplies.co
What makes this brush special
Expect a supple, controlled response. The hairs should gather into a point cleanly and hold that point through repeated strokes, while the belly feeds paint steadily enough for several small marks. A good Kolinsky round like this feels precise but not dry: it bends enough to help the painter, then comes back to shape without fuss. That balance is why premium rounds stay popular despite their higher cost. shop.stuartstevenson.co

How we measure a brushA visual guide to the measurements shown in the size chart above.
These are the same measurements shown in the size chart above. Brush sizes are not standardised across brands, so use these dimensions when comparing brushes within a series or between manufacturers.
Tuft Length
The visible length of the brush hairs, measured from the ferrule to the tip.
Belly Diameter
The widest point of the brush head. On round brushes, this is the widest part of the belly.
Total Length
The full measurement from the tip of the brush to the end of the handle.
How to care for your brush
Wash the brush as soon as possible after use with lukewarm water and a mild brush soap. Keep the cleaning gentle so the point is not bent sideways or split, and never leave the brush soaking in water. Dry it reshaped and stored where the tip will not be crushed. Natural sable brushes benefit from regular, careful cleaning more than occasional harsh treatment. etsy

Excellent Quality Great Value Brush for Miniatures
I purchased a size 0 Da Vinci Series 36 Kolinsky Redsable Brush from Hobby Heaven a few weeks ago, and have been using it ever since. Keeps an excellent point, and is ideal for miniature painting. At the same time I purchased a 00 size, also very useful for very small detail, but the 0 is my favourite. Both are extremely good value high quality brushes.

Poor Quality Brush
Picked up a no. 2 brush, and the bristles split immediately. I will be avoiding Da Vinci products in the future
