Product overview

This AK Interactive Wargame Series starter set pairs fourteen 3rd Generation acrylics with a 28 mm Thegn warrior of the Northern Alliance, a Kings of War figure by Mantic, supplied unpainted. In AK's framing the figure plays for the Northern Alliance in Kings of War or serves in any other board game or project, and the fourteen colours widen a painter's range for any kind of figure. A printed painting guide is included; the box front credits the painted example to Josedavinci.

Set contains (14 × 17 ml + 1 figure): AK11028 Smoke Black, AK11228 Night Blue – Ink, AK11439 French Greyish Blue, AK11161 Pale Blue, AK11005 Greenish White, AK11047 Lemon Yellow, AK11064 Beige Red, AK11091 Carmine, AK11031 Buff, AK11098 Black Red, AK11109 Dark Brown, AK11127 British Khaki, AK11151 Brownish Green, AK11159 Russian Green, plus 1 × Mantic Kings of War Northern Alliance Thegn figure, 28 mm, unpainted
One of the fourteen is an ink rather than a paint — AK11228 Night Blue – Ink, labelled so by AK; the printed guide itself uses it in glaze and shadow mixes
The printed painting guide maps the figure area by area — armour, skin, hair, fabric, leather and cape — with base, midtone, light, highlight and shadow recipes, two-paint mixes in percentages and numbered steps
3GEN acrylics are formulated for brush and airbrush; made in Spain. Shares three bottles with its sibling box AK11770 Basilean Abbess: AK11028 Smoke Black, AK11098 Black Red and AK11127 British Khaki

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
