Product overview

AK046 is a light rust enamel wash that lays down rust effects across a range of surfaces. Like AK’s other enamel washes it is brushed on and the excess is lifted or blended with White Spirit, so the rust can be built up gradually rather than in a single pass, and worked back where it strays too far.

  • The light rust tone shows up clearly over dark green paint.
  • Dries to a matt finish.
  • Aimed at amphibious vehicles and other subjects weathered in wet conditions.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
