Flesh and Skin Colors (The Original Selection) is AK's dedicated skin-tone set: six 3rd Generation acrylics for painting flesh on any type of figure, and AK's own theme field for it spans civil, fantasy and military subjects. The structure is in the names — a five-step progression from Dark Shadow Flesh through Shadow, Base and Light Flesh to Highlight Flesh, with Reddish Black (Cheekbone Glaze) as the sixth colour, outside that series. It is the 3GEN reissue of an older AK set; AK notes it was previously AK3010, which is what The Original Selection refers to. AK says varying the amounts of the included tones gives endless flesh-tone possibilities. Six matt acrylics in 17 ml bottles.

  • Set contains (6 × 17 ml): Dark Shadow Flesh, Shadow Flesh, Base Flesh, Light Flesh, Highlight Flesh and Reddish Black (Cheekbone Glaze)
  • Five of the six names are the ladder themselves — dark shadow, shadow, base, light and highlight; Reddish Black (Cheekbone Glaze) sits outside the series as a glaze
  • No other set in AK's 3GEN Figure Series carries a skin tone, so this is the flesh companion to any of them. None of the six is stocked by us separately — the set is the only way to buy these tones from us
  • Matt finish; made in Spain

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
