🎯 Practical Applications
🛣️ Roads & Paths
Spread over PVA glue for instant gravel roads. Perfect scale for 28-32mm miniatures. Paint brown for dirt tracks or leave grey for gravel.
🚉 Railway Terrain
Ideal ballast for model railway tracks. Correct scale for O gauge and larger. Glue around tracks for authentic track bed texture.
🏙️ Urban Bases
Create car parks, industrial yards, or urban rubble. Mix with larger rocks for varied texture. Paint grey for concrete effect.
🎖️ Military Terrain
Perfect for vehicle bases or dioramas. Use for rough ground, dirt roads, or forward operating bases. Realistic scale for 1/35-1/48 models.
🔧 How To Use
1. Apply PVA glue to surface in thin even layer
2. Sprinkle gravel generously over glue
3. Press gently to embed in glue
4. Shake off excess when dry
5. Seal with diluted PVA or spray varnish
Pro Technique: Apply glue, sprinkle gravel, let dry, then brush diluted PVA over top. This seals gravel permanently and prevents shedding. Paint after sealing if desired.
🎨 Painting Options
Natural grey - Works as-is for gravel/concrete
Dirt roads - Drybrush brown/tan for country tracks
Industrial - Black wash + grey drybrush for grimy look
Desert - Paint tan/ochre for arid gravel
Variation - Mix painted and unpainted areas for realism

Gravel Road Terrain: Paint surface brown. Apply PVA. Sprinkle gravel. Press flat. Seal with diluted PVA. Add tire tracks with texture tool.
Urban Base (32mm): Texture paste base. Sprinkle gravel over wet paste. Let dry. Paint grey. Drybrush white. Add small tuft.

Notes · Q & A
What is actually in these jars, and what is it used for?
The stone, gravel and ground products contain loose natural or rubber scenic material for building rocky terrain and surface detail. AK8309 is the exception: it consists of 3D-printed resin bamboo pieces rather than granular fill.
How do I fix the loose material to a base or diorama?
Arrange the loose rocks, gravel or ground material where required, then secure it with white glue or AK118 Gravel & Sand Fixer. AK does not give this fixing instruction for the 3D-printed resin bamboo pieces.
What modelling scale do these materials suit?
AK lists the loose stone products at 1:35, but also states that they can be used from 25 mm miniature bases through to larger-scale scenery. Choose a fragment size that looks appropriate beside the model rather than treating 1:35 as an exclusive scale.
Should I choose rocks, gravel or ground material?
Choose flat, volcanic or desert rocks when individual fragments should remain visible, gravel for finer granular fill, and ground material for broader surface coverage. The black gravel and large stones are rubber, while the bamboo set is a separate resin scenic accessory.
How much area will one jar cover?
AK gives a 100 ml volume for the loose rocks, gravels and ground products but publishes no coverage figure; the bamboo set has no volume stated. The area depends on how densely the material is placed, so an exact figure cannot be sourced.
