🛠️ How to Keep Your Brushes Working Properly
Synthetic brushes last years when cleaned properly. Neglect them and they'll be ruined in weeks. Here's what actually works:
- Rinse immediately after painting – don't let acrylic dry in the bristles. Use lukewarm water, never hot (heat damages the bristles' structure).
- Work in gentle soap or brush cleaner – use Marseille soap or specialized brush cleaner. Work the soap into the bristles from ferrule to tip, creating a lather.
- Massage and rinse until water runs clear – gently work the bristles with your fingers to remove all paint residue. Repeat if necessary.
- Squeeze out excess water – use a paper towel or clean cloth to absorb moisture without pulling on the bristles.
- Reshape the bristles – reform the brush to its original shape while still damp. This prevents splaying.
