Product overview

A dedicated set for weathering model steam locomotives and rolling stock, built entirely from the Vallejo Train Color range. The nine bottles cover the specific effects a working locomotive accumulates — soot around the smoke box, grease on running gear, rust on exposed iron, chalk residue on wheels and general yard dirt — with a liquid mask for protecting areas during the process and a matt varnish to seal the finished weathering. Also packed with two Toray brushes, palette, colour chart and a printed guide by railway modeller Heinz Wagner.

  • The only Vallejo set built entirely from the Train Color range — purpose-made for locomotives
  • Liquid Mask (73.008) protects boiler bands, nameplates and lining while you weather around them
  • Matt Varnish (73.009, 35 ml) seals the finished weathering and unifies the sheen across different effects

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
