A versatile beginner’s mix of natural and synthetic brushes for general painting, practice, and everyday watercolour work.
This set is built as an approachable all-round starter collection, combining pointed rounds with a pair of short flats and a soft goat mop. That mix gives beginners enough range to sketch, block in washes, add detail, and soften edges without needing to buy multiple specialist brushes straight away. It suits hobby painters who want one compact set for watercolour, mixed media, and practice work, especially those still learning which brush shapes they use most.
The selection feels intentionally balanced: the pointed rounds handle drawing and controlled marks, the flats give broader coverage and clean edges, and the mop helps with washes, blending, and water-heavy passages. Because it includes both natural and synthetic fibres, it offers a useful introduction to the different handling characteristics of each. Compared with buying brushes individually, the set gives a more economical way to explore several essential shapes from a handmade UK brand known for dependable working tools.
What makes this brush special
Expect a set with a practical, workhorse feel rather than luxury showpieces. The natural fibres will typically give softer flow and better water-holding, while the synthetics should feel a little springier and more durable for repeated use. Handles are short and comfortable, suited to table work and close control. Overall finish should be consistent and straightforward, with the handmade Rosemary & Co character coming through in the brush response more than in decorative presentation.

How we measure a brushA visual guide to the measurements shown in the size chart above.
These are the same measurements shown in the size chart above. Brush sizes are not standardised across brands, so use these dimensions when comparing brushes within a series or between manufacturers.
Tuft Length
The visible length of the brush hairs, measured from the ferrule to the tip.
Belly Diameter
The widest point of the brush head. On round brushes, this is the widest part of the belly.
Total Length
The full measurement from the tip of the brush to the end of the handle.
How to care for your brush
Because this set mixes natural and synthetic fibres, it is worth treating each with slightly different habits. For the natural brushes, use cool or lukewarm water, avoid soaking the ferrule, clean with gentle brush soap, and reshape the tip after washing. The synthetic brushes are more forgiving and can tolerate slightly warmer water, but they still benefit from prompt cleaning and careful reshaping. For the goat mop, rinse thoroughly and let it dry flat or hanging so the head keeps its form. Store the brushes dry, upright in a pot or laid flat in a roll, and avoid compressing the tips in a crowded bag.
