Green Stuff World Basing Cork Grit — Fine (200ml)

Fine natural cork granules (approx. 0.5–2mm) for sand, soil, fine gravel and gritty ground on miniature bases, wargaming terrain and dioramas. This is the finest grade in the range. 200ml tub.

Why hobbyists use fine cork grit

  • Fine 0.5–2mm granules — realistic sand, soil and fine gravel texture, in scale on smaller bases.
  • Feather-light — ground texture without the weight of real sand, so bases stay balanced.
  • Soaks up glue & paint — the porous surface drinks PVA, washes and varnish, and can even be mixed straight into paint.
  • Perfect for 28–32mm — fine grain keeps texture in scale where coarse rubble would look oversized.
  • Natural irregular grain — reads as real earth and grit, not a moulded pattern.

About Fine Basing Cork Grit

Basing Cork Grit is small fragments of natural cork used to represent sand, soil, dirt, fine gravel and gritty ground. It's one of the quickest ways to turn a bare base into textured earth: brush on PVA, sprinkle the cork, seal it, and you're ready to paint. You can also mix it straight into paint for a gritty groundwork medium. This is the Fine grade at roughly 0.5–2mm — the smallest in the range. For chunkier rock and rubble, Green Stuff World also make Medium and Thick grades; many hobbyists lay fine grit as the base ground and add coarser pieces on top for scattered rocks.

How to use it

Spread PVA (or watered-down PVA) over the base and press or sprinkle the fine cork into it, then tip off the excess. Seal with a second thin coat of watered PVA or brush-on varnish to lock the grit down and stop it shedding. It takes spray primer, brush and airbrush well — basecoat dark, then drybrush up through earth or stone tones to bring out the grain. A dark wash sinks into the porous cork and shades the texture automatically for instant weathering.

Good to know

This is the fine grade — small grain for sand and soil texture. If you want chunky rock, rubble or boulders, choose the Medium or Thick grade instead (or combine them). As a natural product, grain sizes vary a little within the tub — that variation is what makes it look like real ground. Cork is light and porous, so always seal it after gluing for table durability.
