Product overview

The DSPIAE MSF-13 is the shortest Siren glass file, a 90 mm parallel-sided blade for small parts, tight interiors and work held close to your fingers. Its etched single-direction surface works directly against plastic or hard woods; nothing is attached to the file or consumed. The finish is equivalent in fineness to 10000–12000 grit sandpaper, making this a final polishing step after shaping.

  • A square end retains the full working width along the compact blade.
  • Plastic and hard woods are the permitted materials; it is not for metal.
  • When residue reduces the cut, clean the etched face with water and a toothbrush.
  • Store it inside the supplied case, and handle the tempered glass without dropping or throwing it.

What's the difference between a needle file and a sanding stick?

Needle files are steel, cut faster and hold their shape for tight spots and metal. Sanding sticks are foam or paper-backed abrasive, kinder to plastic and better for smoothing broad, flat surfaces without gouging.

Which grit should I start with on mould lines?

For plastic, start around 400 grit to knock the line back, then refine with 600–800. Coarser than 400 leaves scratches you then have to chase out, so only go lower for resin flash or heavy work.

Should I file wet or dry?

Wet sanding with a drop of water reduces dust and clogging and gives a finer finish, which matters on resin where the dust is best not inhaled. Dry filing is fine for quick metal work and steel needle files.

How do I stop a file clogging with plastic or resin?

Brush it out with a stiff brass brush along the cut direction. For sanding sticks, tap them clean often. Clogged abrasive stops cutting and starts burnishing, which just polishes the high spots rather than removing them.
