Product overview
Eight 3rd Generation acrylic colours for Soviet Air Force aircraft from the 1930s to mid-1941, following the real sequence of schemes. Before 1937, Protective Green uppers over Grey-Blue undersides. Around 1937 an overall AE-9/AII Light Grey finish appeared on aircraft such as the Tupolev SB, replaced around the end of 1938 by overall AE-8/AII Aluminium. From February 1937, types such as the I-15bis and U-2 wore AII Green over AII Aluminium. From June 1940 the standard was green over light blue — and which green depends on construction: A-19f Grass Green for all-metal aircraft, AII Green for mixed-construction ones, with A-18f Light Grey-Blue and AII Light Blue beneath on the same split.
Seven matt camouflage colours plus one metallic: AE-8/AII Aluminium is a metallic paint, so this is not a single-finish set — it covers the overall AE-8/AII Aluminium finish carried by aircraft such as the Tupolev SB and DB-3 bombers and UT-2 trainers
Acrylic colours for brush; for airbrush, dilute with water or AK11500 thinner
AK11741 Soviet Aircraft Colors 1941-1945 picks up the timeline where this box ends and shares not a single colour with it — the pre-war palette was superseded outright rather than extended
The box carries AK's printed "Scale Reduction Factor" mark, as on the rest of the 3GEN AIR range

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?+
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?+
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?+
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
