Product overview

Fresh Rust supplies the bright orange end of the rust palette, suited to new oxidation on exposed edges, chips and recently damaged metal. Its opaque acrylic gouache lays down textured colour with a matt finish rather than a reflective paint layer. Once the effect has dried, tap water can reactivate it, giving you another opportunity to feather the edge, soften the intensity or lift selected areas.

  • Supplied as 20 ml in a metal tube.
  • The water-based binder also allows the colour to be diluted before application.
  • It can be layered with other rust tones to vary the oxidation.
  • Suitable over conventional acrylics, enamels, oils, plastic, paper and cardboard.

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
