Dark Earth is a loose dry earth pigment for armour and military subjects, an ultrafine powder you dust straight onto a model. Mud is where it comes into its own: work the powder into plaster or fine sand and grit for a thick, muddy texture, or thin it down into wet stains and splatter. Dabbed on dry it leaves a light dust; brushed into track centres and corners it builds the grime where dirt would gather.
Dust it on dry, or wet it with AK011 White Spirit or AK048 Pigment Fixer — both also pin a dry dusting in place.
Blend it with plaster, sand or grit for muddy texture, or with AK079 Wet Effect Fluid for wet stains.
A 35 ml screw-top jar of loose powder.

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?+
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?+
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?+
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
