Product overview
Dark Earth is a deep, dark-soil acrylic weathering gouache — an opaque, water-based colour packed in a 20 ml metal tube — evoking freshly turned ground and damp earth rather than dry dust. It dries matt and softens again under tap water long after it sets, so the effect stays easy to re-blend and lift. Use it low on a hull and running gear, through groundwork and scenery, and wherever heavier earth gathers; it can also be worked into real soil or plaster for a coarser, textured deposit.
- Wet it again with tap water whenever you like, to soften, spread or pull the effect back.
- Opaque and flatly matt, so fresh earth reads as damp soil rather than a shine.
- Grips over enamels, acrylics and oils, and over cardboard, paper and plastic.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
