Product overview

Burnt Jet Engine is a dry pigment powder — an ultrafine, loose colour with no binder, so it's a weathering medium, not a paint. It's named for burnt jet-engine areas, and it is aimed at a narrower set of subjects than most of the range: aircraft, civil and military work.

Work it dry, or wet it down with White Spirit or Pigment Fixer; a dry layer can be locked down afterwards with the same.
A dry powder suits light smoke and metallic effects, dusted on for a matt, sooty finish.
The black screw-cap jar holds 35 ml of powder.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
