AK Interactive — Basing Bits
3D-Printed Resin Accessories for
Miniature Bases & Dioramas
35 Themed Sets  ·  AKBIT0001–AKBIT0035  ·  Plants, Ruins, Skulls, FX & More
What Are AK Basing Bits?

AK Basing Bits are ready-to-use 3D-printed resin accessories designed to bring instant storytelling and atmosphere to your miniature bases, dioramas, and terrain pieces. Each themed set contains a selection of highly detailed elements — from natural vegetation and crumbling ruins to dynamic special effects like weapon blasts, portal energy, and plasma trails.

The concept is simple: glue, prime, paint, done. No flash to clean, no supports to remove, no 3D printer required. Every piece comes ready to attach straight out of the box. The resin is durable enough for regular wargaming and accepts paint beautifully — primer, drybrushing, washes, contrast paints, and weathering all work exactly as you'd expect.

Designed at 28–32 mm scale for Warhammer 40K, Age of Sigmar, D&D, Infinity, Bolt Action, and most popular tabletop systems — though many pieces work equally well for display projects and dioramas in adjacent scales.

Why Hobbyists Love These

Instant Impact — Transform a plain base into a storytelling piece in minutes. No sculpting skills needed.

🔬 Exceptional Detail — 3D-printed resin captures fine textures that injection moulding can't match at this scale: leaf veins, bark grain, bone cracks, energy swirls.

🎮 Gaming-Durable — Tough resin that won't chip or snap off during regular tabletop use. These aren't display-only pieces.

🖌️ Painter-Friendly — Excellent paint adhesion with any primer. Works with acrylics, washes, contrast paints, oils — whatever your workflow.

📦 Generous Piece Counts — Most sets include 12–72 individual pieces, enough to base an entire squad or fill a diorama scene.

🔄 Mix & Match — Combine sets freely. Rocks + Grass + Skulls = grimdark battlefield. Mushrooms + Ferns + Candles = enchanted forest. The system is designed to work together.

How to Use

1   Clip & Dry Fit — Separate pieces from the sprue if attached. No flash, no supports to clean. Dry-fit on your base to plan the layout.

2   Glue — Attach with cyanoacrylate (super glue) or epoxy. Standard plastic cement won't work — these are resin, not polystyrene.

3   Prime — Apply any standard primer. The resin has excellent adhesion — no special surface prep needed.

4   Paint — Treat them like any resin miniature. Drybrushing, washes, contrast paints, weathering pigments, oils — whatever suits your scheme.

Pro Tips from the Community

👉 Combine sets for storytelling. A single Skulls piece next to some Blood FX and a Dead Tree tells a story without a single word. The FX sets are designed to pair with the terrain and vegetation sets.

👉 Use AK texture pastes as a base layer. Apply terrain textures to your base first, press the Basing Bits into the wet paste, then paint everything together for a seamless, integrated look.

👉 FX effects work as weapon attachments too. Weapon Shot FX and Plasma FX can be glued directly onto gun barrels for mid-fire action poses — not just bases.

👉 Paint vegetation in your army colours. Alien armies? Purple grass. Nurgle? Sickly yellow-green mushrooms. The unpainted resin is a blank canvas.

👉 Mix with static grass, tufts, and pigments. Basing Bits provide the 3D focal points while traditional tufts and grass fill the gaps around them.

Worth Knowing

These are resin, not plastic. Standard polystyrene cement will not bond them. Use super glue or epoxy only.

Unpainted grey resin. They arrive in uniform grey. You'll need to prime and paint them — for experienced painters this is an advantage, giving full control over the colour scheme.

Piece sizes vary within each set. Each set includes a mix of smaller and larger elements by design — smaller bits for 25 mm infantry bases, larger ones for 40 mm+ or diorama scenes.

Notes · Q & A

Which magnet size should I choose for miniatures?

A 2×1 mm disc suits infantry weapon swaps, while 3×1 mm is a practical step up for arms and small components. Sizes around 3×2 to 5×2 mm work well for basing and larger parts, with 5×3 mm and above better suited to vehicles, large models and army transport. Each listing includes a calculated pull figure in grams so you can compare sizes on the same basis.

What does the N42 magnet grade mean?

The grade describes the magnetic material: at identical dimensions, a higher number generally produces more pull. N52 is typically around 20–25% stronger than N42 at the same size, but increasing the magnet's diameter or thickness usually makes a larger practical difference than changing grade alone. Our range is clearly specified as N42.

How do I keep the polarity consistent?

Before separating the stack, mark one face with a permanent marker and use that mark as your polarity reference. Dry-fit every pair before applying adhesive, and glue the two halves while the magnets are still attracting each other in the intended orientation. Reversing one magnet is one of the most common magnetisation mistakes.

What size hole should I drill for a magnet?

Use a drill matching the magnet diameter; for a designed 3D-printed socket, allow roughly 0.1 mm extra diameter. Make the recess approximately the magnet thickness plus 0.2 mm for adhesive so the face can sit level with the surrounding surface. CA adhesive is suitable for fixing these magnets into plastic, resin or metal parts.

How should neodymium magnets be handled safely?

Swallowing two or more magnets can cause serious internal injury, so keep loose magnets away from children and use them only for adult hobby work. Neodymium magnets are also brittle and may chip if allowed to snap together. Bring them together slowly from the edge rather than letting their flat faces strike each other.
