Abteilung 502 Mapping Technique Lights & Shadows Set contains six artist oils selected for creating highlights, shadows and tonal variation on scale models. AK Interactive recommends the colours for stippling and mapping techniques, where their blending and transparency can create faded, dirty surfaces and additional visual volume. The set can be used over base coats and camouflage schemes on ships, vehicles and aircraft. Each colour is supplied in a separate 20 ml oil paint tube.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
