Abteilung 502 Base Color Alteration Set contains six artist oils selected to modify a model's main base colour by adding subtle tonal nuances. AK Interactive recommends the selection for grey, desert yellow and green finishes, as well as different camouflage schemes. The method is intended to make a painted subject appear more varied and realistic without replacing its established base tone. The selection was made by Joaquín García Gázquez for techniques described in Mastering Oils 1.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
