Natural bristle daggers for organic, textured strokes in oils and acrylics.
What makes this brush special
100% natural bristle with firm spring and scratchy, textured character. Dagger/sword shape gives enormous mark variety from a single brush — thin lines, broad strokes, curves. Deliberately organic and expressive rather than crisp or controlled. Medium paint carry with a loaded, directional stroke feel. Long handles for easel-distance painting. Designed by a working landscape painter for real painting situations.

Best with properly thinned acrylics, especially for detail and glazing.

How we measure a brush

These are the same measurements shown in the size chart above. Brush sizes are not standardised across brands, so use these dimensions when comparing brushes within a series or between manufacturers.
- Tuft Length
- The visible length of the brush hairs, measured from the ferrule to the tip.
- Belly Diameter
- The widest point of the brush head. On round brushes, this is the widest part of the belly.
- Total Length
- The full measurement from the tip of the brush to the end of the handle.
How to care for your brush
During painting: wipe paint out promptly and keep the ferrule clear, especially with acrylics — dried acrylic in natural bristle is very difficult to remove.
After painting: wash thoroughly with a dedicated brush soap (The Masters Brush Cleaner & Preserver works brilliantly with natural hair). Reshape the dagger edge with your fingers before leaving to dry.
Storage: dry the brush fully before storing upright or flat. A brush roll or protective tube helps maintain the dagger profile over time. Never store with the bristles compressed or bent.
What NOT to do: don't soak the brush for long periods (damages bristles and loosens the ferrule), don't let acrylic dry in the bristles, and don't scrub aggressively enough to deform the dagger edge. Natural bristle is durable but not indestructible.
Expected lifespan: long with proper care. Natural bristle wears faster than synthetic under heavy abuse, but with sensible handling these brushes will last for years of regular painting.
