Product overview

AK Interactive WWI German Aircraft Colors is the eight-bottle 3rd Generation set for German aircraft of the First World War, and the count is deliberate: seven colours AK lists as essential for the camouflage patterns most commonly seen on those aircraft, plus an eighth — the Grey-Green Primer AK says was typically used on metal panels and fittings. The palette is the reason to buy the box rather than mix: the mauve, lilac, light blue and two greens behind the period's lozenge and streaked schemes are not shades most shelves already hold. For the fabric finish underneath, AK11712 Clear Doped Linen is the companion set.

  • Set contains (8 × 17 ml): AK11801 WWI German Fokker Grey, AK11802 WWI German Light Green, AK11803 WWI German Dark Green, AK11804 WWI German Mauve, AK11805 WWI German Red Brown, AK11806 WWI German Light Blue, AK11807 WWI German Lilac, AK11808 WWI German Grey-Green Primer
  • Seven camouflage colours plus the Grey-Green Primer — the eighth bottle is the primer for metal panels and fittings
  • Matt finish throughout — no metallic or gloss member in the box
  • Acrylic colours for brush; for airbrush, dilute with water or AK11500 thinner
  • The box carries AK's printed "Scale Reduction Factor" mark, as on the rest of the 3GEN AIR range
  • Made by AK Interactive S.L. in Logroño, Spain

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
