The AK9550–AK9555 range brings six selectable abrasive grades into one listing, spanning P400 to P3000 for successive surface-finishing requirements. Each version uses sponge-backed abrasive rather than a rigid sanding face, allowing the working area to conform as it passes over shaped model parts. The range therefore covers both general sanding and the later polishing stages without changing to a different tool format.
Each selected grade is supplied as a pack of six sheets.
Individual pieces can be cut using scissors or a knife.
Available options are P400, P500–600, P800–1000, P1200–1500, P2000 and P3000.

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a needle file and a sanding stick?+
Needle files are steel, cut faster and hold their shape for tight spots and metal. Sanding sticks are foam or paper-backed abrasive, kinder to plastic and better for smoothing broad, flat surfaces without gouging.
Which grit should I start with on mould lines?+
For plastic, start around 400 grit to knock the line back, then refine with 600–800. Coarser than 400 leaves scratches you then have to chase out, so only go lower for resin flash or heavy work.
Should I file wet or dry?+
Wet sanding with a drop of water reduces dust and clogging and gives a finer finish, which matters on resin where the dust is best not inhaled. Dry filing is fine for quick metal work and steel needle files.
How do I stop a file clogging with plastic or resin?+
Brush it out with a stiff brass brush along the cut direction. For sanding sticks, tap them clean often. Clogged abrasive stops cutting and starts burnishing, which just polishes the high spots rather than removing them.
