Kolinsky sable rigger for long, flowing lines. Script work, rigging, and fine linear detail.
The Raphael 8802 is a Kolinsky sable rigger brush — named for its traditional use painting the rigging on model ships. Riggers have very long, thin bristles that hold a large amount of paint relative to their width, allowing painters to pull long, continuous lines without reloading.
The 8802 uses premium Kolinsky sable for excellent flow and point retention across those long strokes. For miniature painters, riggers are useful for painting ropes, wires, lightning effects, and any fine linear detail that needs to flow continuously. For watercolourists, they excel at tree branches, grasses, and calligraphic mark-making.
What makes this brush special
Very long, thin Kolinsky sable bristles for extended line work. Holds enough paint to pull long lines without reloading. Excellent flow and point retention from premium Kolinsky hair. A specialist tool for linear detail that round brushes cannot replicate.

How to care for your brush
Rinse carefully after use — the long bristles need gentle handling to maintain their shape. Clean with brush soap and reshape the full length of the hair. Store straight in a brush roll or tube — do not bend the long bristles. With care, the Kolinsky hair maintains its flow for years.
