Product overview

Vallejo Metal Color Engine Set combines four water-based acrylic metallics selected for radial and linear aircraft engines. The colours cover alloy, copper, gunmetal and exhaust-manifold tones, using aluminium pigments to achieve reflective metal finishes without the need for enamel or lacquer metallic paints. Metal Color is formulated for airbrush application but can also be used with a brush and tinted directly in the airbrush cup with Model Air or Game Air colours. Each paint is supplied in a 32 ml eyedropper bottle with a hinged cap and stainless-steel mixing ball.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
