Kaleido Colorworks ยท RapidAir
The everyday airbrush thinner for Kaleido RapidAir paints in a compact 60ml bottle. Same formula as the full-size KT201 โ adjusts viscosity without compromising coverage, adhesion, or gloss. Water-based, non-toxic, solvent-free. Recommended ratio: 5:1 paint-to-thinner.
๐จ Your Default Thinner โ Travel Size
KT101 is the bottle that comes inside Kaleido's paint sets โ and it's the same formula as the larger 210ml KT201. This is the thinner you'll use most often: fine-tuning paint consistency for your nozzle size, pressure, and the effect you're after.
Unlike plain water โ which can break down the paint's binders and cause graininess โ KT101 is formulated to preserve coverage, adhesion, and gloss while thinning. The difference shows most on gloss and metallic finishes where every imperfection is visible.
โ๏ธ Formulated for Airbrush Performance
KT101 adjusts spraying concentration without affecting coverage or adhesion. It applies evenly with minimal risk of sagging โ equally suited to fine lines and large-area coverage. Optimised for 0.3mm+ nozzles at 10 PSI and above.
Kaleido RapidAir paints come pre-thinned and ready to spray, so KT101 is for fine-tuning rather than heavy dilution. Start with the recommended 5:1 paint-to-thinner ratio and adjust from there.
๐ 60ml vs 210ml โ Which Size?
| KT101 โ 60ml (This) | KT201 โ 210ml | |
| Formula | Same | Same |
| Best for | Travel, workshops, trying it out | Home workbench, regular use |
| Value | Convenient, compact | Better price per ml |
๐ก Thinner is used more generously than retarder, so 60ml goes faster. If you airbrush regularly, the 210ml KT201 is the smarter buy. The 60ml is ideal for portability or as a first try.

๐ก Pro Tips
Start with the 5:1 ratio โ 5 parts paint to 1 part thinner is Kaleido's baseline. Add more or less depending on your nozzle size, pressure, and how thin you want the layer.
Don't over-thin โ too much thinner reduces coverage and adhesion. If paint flows poorly despite thinning, the issue may be pressure, blockage, or paint build-up โ not thickness.
Add KT102 for blending and glosses โ if you're getting tip dry or need more working time, a drop or two of KT102 Retarder alongside KT101 gives you independent control over viscosity and drying speed.
Better than water, every time โ water can break down binders and cause graininess. KT101 preserves the paint's chemistry while thinning.
โ๏ธ Worth Knowing
Water-based acrylics only โ not designed for enamels, lacquers, or solvent-based paints.
Won't solve tip dry โ KT101 is a thinner, not a retarder. If fast drying at the needle is your issue, you want KT102 Retarder Thinner instead (or both together).
60ml goes faster than the retarder โ thinner is used more generously (a few drops vs 1โ2 for retarder), so you'll go through it quicker. Frequent airbrushers get better value from the 210ml KT201.
Same formula as KT201 โ if you already have the 210ml bottle, this is the same product. Handy as a travel bottle, but no need to buy both for the workbench.
Notes ยท Q & A
What nozzle size do I need for miniatures?
0.3mm is the versatile all-rounder for base coats and priming; 0.2mm suits fine detail work. Larger nozzles (0.5mm) are for terrain and big surfaces.
Do I need a compressor with a tank?
A tank smooths the airflow and reduces pulsing, giving more consistent results โ worth it if you spray regularly, but tankless compressors work fine for occasional use.
How do I keep an airbrush working well?
Flush with airbrush cleaner between colours and strip-clean after each session. Most spraying problems are cleaning problems.
