Product overview

GSW Water Soluble Patina is a reworkable weathering medium for ageing miniatures, models and dioramas. Its partially water-soluble behaviour distinguishes it from a conventional fixed wash: after application, the colour can still be softened, feathered or removed selectively with moisture. Pigment settles into recesses, rough textures and raised relief, supporting oxidation, grime, moss and soot effects across detailed surfaces.

  • Apply to clean, dry, grease-free plastic, resin or metal.
  • Remove or redistribute excess with a damp sponge, brush or cotton bud.
  • Shake thoroughly before use to redistribute settled material.
  • Seal the completed effect with matt varnish.
  • Variants: Verdigris 5702, Turquoise Oxide 5703, Yellow Oxide 5707, Filthy Dirt 5708, Moss 5709 and Black Soot 5901.
  • Also available in a 240 ml format under SKU 5902.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
