Green Stuff World Violet Silicone Putty is a hand-mixed platinum-cure moulding compound for fast impressions and small detailed forms. At 23 °C it gives 2.5 minutes of pot life and cures in 10 minutes, so the master, tools and moulding area must be ready before mixing begins. Combine equal volumes of the two parts, knead thoroughly and apply immediately. Cure inhibition is the critical limitation: use vinyl gloves, never latex, and test unfamiliar masters, because sulphur clay, tin-cure silicone, some woods and freshly cast materials can leave the violet rubber tacky or uncured.
- Mix only the amount that can be positioned within the short working window.
- Newly cast polyester resin, epoxy or urethane rubber may interfere with curing.
- If compatibility is uncertain, apply a small amount to a non-critical area and check that it cures normally.
- Green Stuff World publishes 0.03% shrinkage and a tear strength of 6 N/mm for the cured material.

Which mould-making material should I choose?
Heat-softened bars suit quick press moulds and simple parts; hand-mixed silicone suits fast detailed impressions; remeltable pour materials suit larger one- or two-part forms. Choose according to the master's undercuts, mould size, casting material, available working window and whether the mould must be reshaped for later jobs.
Can a press mould reproduce deep undercuts?
A one-sided press mould works best where the master and casting have a clear removal path. Deep undercuts, enclosed shapes and detail running around the whole object can trap the part or tear the cast, so they usually need a flexible two-part mould with a planned parting line.
What can I cast, and when is a release agent needed?
Compatibility depends on both the mould material and what is poured or pressed into it. Check the maker's instructions for heat, moisture and cure inhibition; use a suitable release agent when the materials may bond, when a water-based mixture can affect the mould, or between the halves of a two-part mould.
How many times can a reusable mould be used?
There is no universal casting count. Service life depends on the mould material, undercuts, casting heat, cleaning, contamination and how gently parts are removed; heat-softened or remeltable materials may be formed into new moulds, while cured flexible moulds gradually wear or tear.
