Product overview
FIMO Professional Dolphin Grey is a firm oven-hardening polymer clay for advanced sculpting, delicate forms and prototypes where a neutral mid-grey body keeps attention on shape and surface. It does not air-dry, so the block remains workable until you are ready to harden it. Condition the clay thoroughly before use; its firmness is the trade-off for high dimensional stability and reliable detail retention. Harden the finished piece at 110 °C for 30 minutes in a preheated domestic oven, using an oven thermometer, and treat 130 °C as the maximum ceiling rather than a baking range. The 454 g resealable block is divided into eight portions for regular studio use.
Work the clay until it is evenly conditioned before attempting fine cuts, canes or delicate structural details.
Oven-hardening FIMO Professional, Soft and Effect clays can be mixed with one another before shaping.
After hardening, the model can be sanded, polished or drilled and finished with suitable plasticiser-resistant acrylic or oil paints.
Keep unhardened material away from polystyrene, PVC and styrofoam during storage and modelling.
STAEDTLER states that it has avoided phthalate-based plasticisers in oven-hardening FIMO since 2006.

Notes · Q & A
How do I bake polymer clay safely at home?+
Use a conventional or toaster oven, follow the temperature and time printed on the clay's packaging, and keep the room well ventilated. An oven thermometer is useful because the dial may not match the temperature inside; overheating can darken, crack or damage the piece.
What does conditioning polymer clay mean?+
Conditioning means warming, rolling and working the clay until it becomes evenly flexible and ready to shape. Properly conditioned clay blends more cleanly, accepts detail more consistently and is less likely to retain stiff or crumbly areas inside the finished form.
Can oven-bake clay be baked in stages?+
Many polymer clays can be baked more than once, which is useful when building a sculpture in sections or adding detail to a hardened base. Follow the instructions for the specific clay, and avoid rebaking over paints, glazes or added materials unless they are suitable for the oven.
How can I finish polymer clay after baking?+
Let the piece cool fully before sanding, carving or drilling it. Many oven-bake clays accept water-based acrylic paint, but check the maker's instructions and test unfamiliar paints or coatings on a spare baked sample before applying them to the finished model.
