Product overview

The DSPIAE XDB-S02 occupies the middle of the three-set size ladder. Six tungsten bits cover pinning joints, drilling out model gun barrels and general assembly work on 1/35 to 1/48 scale kits. Continuous 0.1 mm increments from 1.5 through 2.0 mm give you closely graded choices around these medium drilling diameters.

  • The set contains 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9 and 2.0 mm bits.
  • A Ø3.175 mm shank matches the chuck of the Mobius hand drill, DSPIAE's AT-MHD.
  • Inside a Mobius collet, the flattened locking section prevents rotation when the drill meets resistance.
  • The PT-HD general purpose hand drill we stock holds this shank, without spin-lock engagement.
  • The silver insert reads SPIN-LOCK DRILL BIT 02.

Notes · Q & A

What size drill bit do I need for pinning miniatures?

For most metal and resin minis, 0.8mm to 1.0mm suits brass rod pinning. Drop to 0.3–0.5mm for magnets and small barrel-drilling. Match the bit to your rod or magnet diameter rather than guessing, and check the product description for sizes stocked.

Why do my micro drill bits keep snapping?

Nearly always side load — the bit flexing because the pin vice isn't held straight, or forcing it through resin. Let the bit cut at its own pace, keep the vice vertical, and clear swarf often. Sub-0.5mm bits are glass-brittle.

Do I need a pin vice or can I use a powered rotary tool?

A hand-held pin vice gives the control you want for fine work and rarely melts plastic. Powered tools spin fast enough to friction-melt resin and plastic and snap small bits, so keep them for larger holes only.

How do I start a hole without the bit wandering?

Mark the centre first with a sharp blade tip or a scriber to make a small divot. That gives the bit a seat to bite into, so it starts on the mark instead of skating across a curved or glossy surface.
