The yellow DSPIAE PT-SP02 uses 280-grit paper for coarse clean-up, knocking back sprue-gate stubs or seams before finer grades take over. The rigid acrylic components are reusable backing pads rather than abrasives in their own right. Their job is to keep the working face flat while replaceable self-adhesive sandpaper supplies the cut.

  • Widths measure 5, 10 and 25 mm, with a shared thickness of 2.5 mm.
  • Yellow acrylic and the silkscreened 280 marking identify the loaded grit without a separate sticker.
  • The 5 mm pad enters recesses and narrow spaces; the 25 mm version supports a broader flat area.

What's the difference between a needle file and a sanding stick?

Needle files are steel, cut faster and hold their shape for tight spots and metal. Sanding sticks are foam or paper-backed abrasive, kinder to plastic and better for smoothing broad, flat surfaces without gouging.

Which grit should I start with on mould lines?

For plastic, start around 400 grit to knock the line back, then refine with 600–800. Coarser than 400 leaves scratches you then have to chase out, so only go lower for resin flash or heavy work.

Should I file wet or dry?

Wet sanding with a drop of water reduces dust and clogging and gives a finer finish, which matters on resin where the dust is best not inhaled. Dry filing is fine for quick metal work and steel needle files.

How do I stop a file clogging with plastic or resin?

Brush it out with a stiff brass brush along the cut direction. For sanding sticks, tap them clean often. Clogged abrasive stops cutting and starts burnishing, which just polishes the high spots rather than removing them.
