AK Interactive Spanish Civil War Republican Aircraft Colors is a four-bottle set of 3rd Generation acrylics for aircraft of the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War. AK is unusually specific about the box: the two standard factory colours were applied to most aircraft supplied to the Republicans by the Soviet Union — it names the Polikarpov I-15 Chato and I-16 Mosca / Rata fighters, Tupolev SB Katiuska bombers and the Polikarpov R-5 Rasante and R-Z Natacha types. The Sand Yellow represents a camouflage colour AK says is thought to have been locally applied, and the Matt Red was used for quick identification markings.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
