Product overview

Modern American vehicles in Afghanistan and Iraq are a subject in their own right, and this three-piece weathering set was designed for the modellers building them. A 17 ml 3GEN AFV acrylic supplies CARC Tan 686A, the FS 33446 desert colour of US forces — faithfully reproduced and lightly softened for scale effect, in AK's own words — while a 35 ml wash and a 35 ml streaking effects enamel weather it in. AK notes the set also suits subjects from other armies and time periods. The two enamels are stocked by us separately; the CARC Tan acrylic is not.

Set contains: AK121 US Vehicles Wash (enamel, 35 ml), AK11349 CARC Tan 686A (3GEN AFV acrylic, 17 ml) and AK123 US Streaking Effects (enamel, 35 ml)
CARC Tan 686A is the FS 33446 colour of American forces in desert zones, faithfully reproduced and lightly softened to compensate for scale effect, per AK
AK designed the set for OIF and OEF subjects and notes it also serves other armies and time periods
The two enamels are stocked by us separately; the CARC Tan acrylic is not stocked separately

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
