Product overview
For a dead-flat final surface, AK190 Matte Varnish provides 60 ml of water-soluble acrylic coating. The odourless, non-toxic formulation can cover a model by brush and is equally suitable for airbrush delivery. Its handling is straightforward, but the full drying period still needs to be included in the painting schedule.
- Mix the contents thoroughly whenever the bottle is opened for use.
- Choose a conventional brush or spray the coat with an airbrush.
- Reduce the consistency using AK712 Acrylic Thinner if needed.
- Plan on 12 hours before the varnish is completely dry.
- The stated finish is dead flat on the treated area.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
