Product overview

Grime is a dark olive-brown weathering colour for dirt rather than corrosion. It suits vehicle undersides, tarps, scenery and localised build-up in places where dirt gathers. Its opacity allows the deposit to be built up with a brush, while the matt finish avoids turning the effect into a glossy stain. Dried edges can be reopened with tap water, so their shape and location remain adjustable after the first application.

  • Packed as 20 ml of gouache inside a metal tube.
  • Opaque pigments are mixed into a water-based acrylic binder.
  • Tap water can also dilute the gouache before it reaches the model.
  • It works over acrylic, enamel and oil finishes, plus plastic, paper and cardboard.

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
