Product overview

Aircraft Engine Effects Weathering Set is a three-jar blister of AK's 35 ml enamel weathering products for aircraft engines of any era and any air force. The trio: Aircraft Engine Oil — AK notes the oil in planes is lighter in colour than in other vehicles — Aircraft Engine Wash, which AK recommends applying to surfaces painted or varnished with acrylic paint, and Kerosene Leaks and Stains for spilled-kerosene effects on modern or classic aircraft. The card itself prints "enamel colors specially formulated and tested to apply over aircraft colors", and all three jars dilute with white spirit. All three are stocked by us separately as singles.

  • Set contains (3 × 35 ml): AK2019 Aircraft Engine Oil, AK2033 Aircraft Engine Wash and AK2039 Kerosene Leaks and Stains
  • AK on the engine oil: "The oil in planes is different than in other vehicles as the color is lighter" — the only colour statement AK makes in this set
  • AK's own caution on the kerosene jar: it is for spilled-kerosene effects, and "This is not product to make oil and grease effects"
  • AK's advice on the engine wash: apply it to surfaces that have been painted or varnished with acrylic paint
  • All three jars are stocked by us separately as singles

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
